Make the Best of Diwali Shopping by these Traffic insights
With Tri-City residents on a shopping spree ahead of Diwali Festival Season, roads are chock-a-block with vehicular traffic, leading to prolonged jams. Markets across the city are flooded with shoppers and parking spaces are full to the capacity.
This Diwali, the Chandigarh Traffic Police is planning to allow parking in various government schools and empty parking lots, which are close to market areas.
To ease out traffic chaos during the festive season, city Mayor Arun Sood have already issued directions to the MC officials that parking lots would be used only for parking and not for setting up any kind of temporary stalls.
The maximum traffic rush is on the road leading to Elante mall, and markets in Sectors 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 34 and 35. To manage all this, 3000 police personals have been deployed across different sectors to regulate and manage traffic on the roads.
To address the problem of illegal parking of vehicles, the Chandigarh Traffic Police is all set to issue immediate challans and use wheel-clamping system.
However, the city residents are not hopeful that all these arrangements are sufficient and will make any difference.
