As a part of Smart City project , CTU has introduced a trial run for an electric bus in the city. CTU in the trial run operated the its first electric bus which had run on a trial basis in the Chandigarh city on June 19th with its 26 passenger seating capacity and standing capacity for 9. It also has a provision for seating for 2 differently abled people. Since the bus didn’t have operating license, it plied without any passenger.These buses, if introduced will reduce the pollution levels thereby making Chandigarh more beautiful and green.
According to confidential sources, in Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) - the bus costs about Rs 1.5 crore.
The bus will be on a trail run for two weeks and thereafter a detailed report will be shared with the ministry. The battery size of the bus and its output will also be examined after the trail run.Whenever a major project in UT is taken up, the cost analysis in a must before a go-ahead is given. With respect to the trials in Chandigarh, the automaker said that the initial runs show very encouraging results in a running of 143 km, covering approximately 70 per cent of the charge.
The electric bus is made by TATA and has been considered after comparison with different companies which have been adopting different non-polluting technologies in their buses.It also has moderate security measures like a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, a public address system and firefighting equipment.
With such sustained efforts, the city is indeed on the way to become more beautiful and eco-friendly.
