The Centre’s ban on 500 and 1000 notes has become a party pooper in Tricity as cash-based alcohol sales in Bars, Pubs and Ahatas have been dwindling since the announcement. There is a sudden decrease in footfall as the Liquor vendors are not accepting the old currency notes.
In chandigarh, the average daily liquor sale before demonetisation was approx 2 Crores, which has come down to about 70 Lakhs; which is almost 30% of the routine. People have little buying capacity in absence of cash and vends are not accepting the old 500 and 1000 demonetised currency.
Abates or easy-on-the-pocket open air hangouts next to liquor vends have not done so well in last 3 days. Mostly, they accept only cash to avoid taxation.
On the other side, Micro Breweries have had better sale as card swipers have kept at it. The use of credit / debit card has increased.
