New Roads leading to Chandigarh - DeraBassi Flyover and Kharar-Zirakpur-Ambala road
The Derabassi flyover is likely to be operational by July 2016, as per its completion schedule. This is a welcome change as the public works department seems to be working diligently. Once opened, this flyover would ease the traffic problems for the commuters on Chandigarh - Delhi route and residents of Dera Bassi as well.
An average of about 60,000 vehicles, chiefly four-wheeler, travel to and fro as well as through Derabassi every day and this flyover is expected to reduce the travel time between Chandigarh and Ambala by about 30 minutes.
In addition to this, the Kharar-Zirakpur-Ambala road is set to start by May 2016. A 200 feet road constructed at the cost of approx. 800 crore would connect Kharar (Balongi) - Zirakpur and Ambala. With this road becoming operational, the commuters from SAS Nagar will not have to go via Chandigarh to reach other districts of Punjab, which will save a lot of time as well as traffic. The Punjab government is perfectly changing the landscape and moving towards making the Tri-City the millennium trio.
