Mohali to get 5 new power grids of 66 KV capacity
On August 17th, Member of Parliament Prem Singh Chandumajra informed that Central government has approved grants for Power Rejuvenation and Development works in urban areas under APDRP (Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme). A budget of Rs 40 crore has been approved for SAS Nagar, Rs 10 crore for Roop Nagar and Nawanshahr each and and the work for Power Rejuvenation will be completed in next 6 months.
To overcome the problem of power shortage, soon the Model city Mohali will have its 200 new transformers. During first phase 30 Kilo meter power distribution lines will be made underground and 5 new power grids of 66 KV capacity will be established. Total of Rs. 40 crore to be spent on improving power infrastructure of Mohali.
City will start getting enough supply and there will be no unscheduled power cuts in the town. So far there were only 3 grids to cover Mohali, which generates about 350 MGV whereas the demand is 275 MGV. When there is an overload or fault in cable, then residents face power cuts from the grid.
With new power grids in place, the city will have the UN-interrupted power supply and will come out from the problem of long power cuts.
