The tri-city can't be more proud as two of its eminent city professors - Professor Harkishan Singh at the Punjab University and Doctor Mukut Minz - have been honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award, for their outstanding achievement and contribution in their respective fields.
Prof. Harkishan Singh is a well-renowned pharma academician, medicinal chemist as well as a science historian, whereas Doctor Mukut Minz is literally a life-saving kidney transplant surgeon with more than 3,300 transplants to his credits.He set up the Renal Transplant Surgery at PGI, Chandigarh.
Prof. Harkishan Singh overwhelmingly said that he will continue his passion for research and give it back to the society. In the past, he was also recognised by WHO for discovering Chandonium Iodide (HS - 310), which is the only drug discovered by an Indian University. He has over 14 patents, 18 books and 350+ publications to his credit.
Doctor Minz has served at PGI for over 30 years and is currently the Director of Renal and Pancreas Transplant Surgery, Fortis Hospital - Mohali. He has been trained in transplant surgeries at different universities of Oslo - Norway, Gothenburg - Sweden, Munich, Heidelberg - Germany, Minnesota - Minneapolis - USA. He in turn, has trained more than 30 transplant surgeons. He has had the honor of performing life saving surgery on Sushma Swaraj - the Union External Affairs Minister.
