Earlier UT Administration has taken its decision on NOT allowing sale of crackers more that eight earmarked sites. However, now it seems like UT Administration taking a U-turn.
Chandigarh Residents will be able to shop Diwali Crackers at around 50 different locations. This is going to be a real tough task for FIRE Department chandigarh to have necessary arrangements and backup. As off now, the fire department has 15 fire tenders, out of this seven will be deployed at the fire stations. One of the reasons for banning sale of crackers everywhere in the Chandigarh except the earmarked sites was the limited resources available with fire department.
To deal with any odd situation, Fire department have decided to station a fire tender at Dussehra Ground, Manimajra; Sector 26 near the grain market; near Nehru Park, Sector 22; Mandi Ground, Sector 43; Sector 25; Sadar Bazar of Sector 19, Hallomajra and at the internal market of Manimajra. All these locations have been called sensitive zones as these are heavily crowded with sale of crackers.
On the other end, 200 new licences to sell crackers have already been issued. And this really make tougher for the 260 employees in the fire department.
